  • Holding SHIFT and clicking "Reload" or "Refresh" on your browser will cause your cache to be replaced by a newer version of the page you are on. This is very useful when visiting a dynamic page with changing information.


  • When using Windows 98 or 2000, holding the windows key, then pressing the D key will minimize all open windows. Pressing this combination again, will return you to your previous state.


  • By right mouse clicking on either the back or forward arrow on your browser you will gain quick access to your immediate browsing history.


  • When reading a long document or web page and you want to find something specific within that document or web page, do the following:
    • Hold Ctrl and press the F key (when using Internet Explorer or Netscape). A dialogue box will appear in which you can place a key word. After typing a word click the “Find Next” button and the document will be searched for the key word. It will then show you all the occurrences of the word for which you are searching.

  • When browsing the web you might come across pictures or graphics that you find interesting. A neat way to use these pictures is to turn them into the background on your desktop (where all your icons are). To do this:
    • Locate the picture, put your mouse cursor on the graphic and click the image using your right mouse button. This will pop up a menu. Choose “set as wall paper”. Now check your desktop.

  • When using NETSCAPE, you don’t need to go to your Email window to send a message. Just hold CTRL and press M. A new message dialog box will appear for you to type and send your message.
  • An easy way to go back or forward through web sites already visited:
    • To Go Back: {Alt. key + left arrow key}
    • To Go Forward: {Alt. Key + right arrow key}
    • You can use this in place of bringing your mouse up to the back and forward buttons on your browser. (This works with Internet Explorer and Netscape)
  • A quick way to close down any window currently being viewed is to hold the Alt. key down and press the F4 key (Alt. + F4). This works with any window.

  • WANT YOUR SEARCH TO GO DIRECTLY TO A SEARCH ENGINE?
    • NETSCAPE:
      Type "search" and the word or phrase in the URL Location Bar. Example:
      Type "search holiday" in the URL Location Bar and then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
    • INTERNET EXPLORER:
      Just type your Keywords in the URL Address Bar (use the "+" between keywords). Example: Type "cheap+air+fare in the URL Address Bar and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
  • FIND QUOTES ON YOUR FAVORITE STOCKS OR MUTUAL FUNDS QUICKLY AND EASILY.
    • NETSCAPE:
      Just type "quote" and the company name in the URL Location Bar.
    • Example:
      Type "quote GE" in your URL location bar and the press the "Enter" key on your keyboard (You can also use the ticker symbol if you know it).
